Problem
HPi aimed to achieve a $1B diversity spend and sought alternative programs with Rand to help reach this goal. HPi was developing a load cell in partnership with another company, but faced challenges due to their internal engineers’ limited resources. Consequently, HPi required assistance from Rand for both engineering resources and full BOM coverage to complete the project.
Solution

Rand identified and partnered with a source for the BOM needs and the completed assembly of the load cell.

The project was structured into four phases, including a 5-piece sample, a 20-piece first article, and a 200-piece pre-production quantity, to be tested over a year before mass production.

Rand collaborated with load cell assemblers, flexure manufacturers, and PCB integrators to enable quoting of the full BOM.

Rand offered an additional program to help HPi acheive their goal of $1B in diversity spend by sourcing cables and PCBs for a facility i Taiwan. While there were no problems with their existing supplier, HPi requested that Rand function as an extension of their purchasing department to evaluate Rand's competitiveness in this area, which turned out to be successful.
Outcome

Once approved, the program is expected to contribute approximately $2.5-$3M in diversity spend per year for HPi.

Rand is actively engaged with HPi, working toward meeting their price for the BOM, which could lead to a long-term production run of 5,000 units annually for 5-7 years.
